Long Lived & Still Prospering – Star Trek from a Noob Perspective
Heard all the raves about this movie. But was never quite convinced it would be as good as everyone made it out to be. I’ve seen my fair share of disappointing blockbusters, and what with the strange casting – Winona Ryder, Simon Pegg, Chris Hemsworth (C’mon- from Home and Away???) I just wasn’t sure. Not to mention that I’d never watched a full episode of Star Trek in my life. My total collective memory of Star Trek was bald guy, tight blue/red suits, spaceship, and that “V” thing you do with your hands. I just wasn’t… EXCITED.
Nevertheless, I went along with about 20 or so of my geeky friends who came from across the city to bask in the glory of a VMAX cinema – and was quite pleasantly surprised. My eyes were glued to the non-stop story/action, it was sort of good to know that I was watching this movie not as a fan would – comparing and referencing the old stuff, but seeing the characters, ships and world as completely new creations – all of which were exciting, engaging and often funny.
So as much as I hate to go with the crowd – Star Trek really is worth watching – but as always, you should judge for yourself.
Now to wait for the next 2 sci-fi flicks which I really AM excited about: Terminator 4 & Transformers 2…>.<
