Lip Puckering Lemon Slice

img_6456

No ramblings. No Stories. Just had a sudden craving for lemon slice. Wanted something fresh and indulgent. I found this lemon slice recipe from Kitchen Wench by Belinda Jeffrey. Mine didn’t come out as pretty as hers, but OH MY WORRRRD it was delicious. For some reason, there was a crumbly top, I suspect some of the base came to the top as it was baking? Either way, it made it really delicious with the gooey centre… Only half left… Notes: halved the recipe.

Not a Dumpling Recipe

img_6431

I remember when I was younger, around high school years, every now and again, my mum would say to me with a stitch between her brow, “Rachel, you’re a girl, you should really know how to cook”. And in my tart adolescent way I would reply, “mum, I don’t HAVE to know how to cook, it’s not a female specific skill anymore”. The thing was, it wasn’t as if I didn’t know how to cook, I can make noodles, scrambled eggs, all the basic things that allowed me to feed myself…Read More

FUCK Muffins

I had another interview yesterday. If it’s possible, I want this one even more because it’s an IT job and they actually encourage people to learn and step outside of their specific responsibilities. The thing is, after this interview, I was smiling all the way home. It felt positive. Whether or not it was remains to be seen, but I actually felt like, yes, I could work here. The people (3 interviewed me) were friendly, to the point and open. I will know by Friday if I get it, and…Read More

Muffin Relief

This morning, I had a very important interview. I say important because I really really want this job. It’s at the prestigious auction house Sotherby’s, and I just really want it. Isn’t it always the case that when you go for interviews you don’t care much about, you exude a sense of confidence and calm, but it’s ever like that when you genuinely do want it. So I dressed smartly, arrived early, even got to see their brilliant restrooms (I would’ve taken a picture but there was a lady powdering…Read More

Burlesque!

With all the commotion of Tuesday night, I’d forgotten about my other exciting outing. Burlesque Life Drawing! I found a website that organises weekly life drawing get-togethers at £10 a pop. Not bad considering some classes go for about £40. They even provide pencils/charcoal and paper for 20p/p. Found another one in Islington for £7 so trying that as soon as I get a bit of cash in! Was from 6:30-9:30. Damn was it draining. I left at 9. It was nice to finally do something creative again. I miss…Read More

Kitchen de la London

As I’ve kept saying, eating out in London isn’t exactly easy on the pocket – or the mouth. So me and A have resorted to cooking at home a lot. Kitchen experiments range from a normal stir fry to mushroom meatballs. Here are a few that we remembered to photograph!

Soft Blueberry

A softie I aptly named “Blueberry” for his pretty violet colour. He’s soft and fleecy- don’t you just want to give him a big hug? ^_^ Pattern from: Softies by Anon (http://www.penguin.com.au/lookinside/spotlight.cfm?SBN=9780670070824)

It’s Not Cheese if it’s Soy

With recent news that my sister is Lactose Intolerant – I’ve given myself new challenges to cook and bake with no milk or dairy products (as I have a feeling I may be as well – although in denial). We’re both IN LOVE with cheese so it was a sad day when we found out. Nevertheless, we’ve set out to discover the land of dairy free – with interesting revelations – we love soy milk – plus I found soy cream cheese in the ‘tofu’ section of our supermarket and…Read More
